Lekki Port Customs, NDLEA Extends Drugs Sensitization to Schools within Port Corridor, Generates N115billion in 6-months

The Grand finale of weeklong activities to commemorate the UN Day celebration against illicit drug trafficking and abuse was held by NDLEA Lekki Deep Sea Port Command on Wednesday 26th June, 2024 with a road walk.

Moving forward, the command has said it would extend the sensitization exercise to schools within the port corridor.

In a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Abdullahi Musa Halidu, the road walk to sensitize the general public within the port corridor on the dangers of drug abuse was well attended by Lekki Port management and collaborating agencies.

The event was declared open by the Customs Area Comptroller Lagos Free Zone, Dr Lanre Olumo. Heads of other collaborating agencies and their respective personnel; the Police, DSS, Standard Organization of Nigeria, NIMASA, NPA, FRSC, Nigeria Quarantine Service graced the momentous event to jointly spread the gospel of abstinence from drug use.

“Even members of the National Association of Patent Medicine Dealers (NAPMED) were not left out.

“The Area Commander Lekki Deep Sea Port, Jonah Achema, CN while welcoming participants for the road walk, emphasized on theme of the year; The Evidence is Clear, Invest in Prevention”. The road walk commenced at the port gate through Dangote refinery junction to pinnacle oil and gas junction” he said

Meanwhile, the Customs Command has said it generated N115 billion in revenue over the past six months.

Customs Area Controller, Dr Olumo stated this during a stakeholder engagement in the Free Trade Zone in Lagos on Thursday.

Olumoh expressed optimism that the command would meet and surpass its annual target by the end of the year.

Speaking further, he said that for Lekki Port, an initial revenue target of N6.61 billion was revised to N8.26 billion. From January to date, N74.67 billion has been generated as revenue from the port.
