Big Task Ahead of Bunu, As Four Candidates Jostle for President, Dockworkers Branch of MWUN

Four prominent members of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) are currently jostling to become President of the Dockworkers Branch of the union, a far cry from the concensus candidacy witnessed during the President General election.

Even though the date of the election is yet to be released, the candidates currently jostling for the soul of the Dockworkers Branch are; Comrade Wole Adetumi from Ports and Cargo, Tin Can Port, Comrade Sharafadeen Oguntoyinbo is from TICT, Comrade Akeem Bolaji Agboola is from Apapa Port, while Comrade Joseph Odomene is from Port Harcourt Port.
Out of the four candidates, one must emerge to succeed the Comrade Tajudeen Ohize.

Through the prevailing influence of the immediate past President General, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, the union was able to reach a concensus and produced Comrade Francis Bunu as the new President General. The election which held on March 28th in Lagos was devoid of rancour and violence.

Apparently, there is a big task before the new President General, Comrade Francis Bunu. The incumbent PG would have to borrow the leadership style of his predecessor, and must ensure that the coming branch elections are conducted without rancour.

He would also have to ensure that the coming elections do not rubbish the legacy of industrial peace and harmony left behind by Comrade Adewale Adeyanju.

As things stand, it appears the election into other branches of the union would be keenly contested as none of the four Presidential candidates from the Dockworkers branch is willing to step down for themselves.
