International Maritime Institute of Nigeria, AIG Maritime Police Forge Partnership to Secure Gulf of Guinea, Boost Blue Economy

Rear Admiral Thaddeus C. Udofia, Director General of the International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION), and his team recently visited the AIG Maritime Police Command to establish a collaborative partnership.

According to a press statement on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Maritime Police Command, ASP Okoi Arikpo, the primary objective of the collaboration is to ensure that Nigeria and international bodies fully benefit from the vast potential of the maritime sector.

IMIN, an institute operated under the Nigerian Navy, focuses on maritime research, education, and discourse, particularly concerning maritime security and blue economy issues within the Gulf of Guinea region.

During the visit, DG Udofia emphasized the institute’s commitment to capacity building, stating that IMION would provide training and workshops for maritime police personnel.
He expressed his gratitude to AIG Garba Yusuf Musa for the warm reception.

While responding, AIG Yusuf acknowledged the expansive nature of the maritime sector and assured the IMION team of his command’s commitment to providing security coverage as a key form of collaboration. He stressed the importance of collaboration in achieving shared goals, emphasizing that maximum cooperation would be extended to the institute.

The AIG reiterated his belief that collaboration is essential for success in the complex maritime environment.

The partnership according to the Police PRO statement, aims to leverage the expertise of both organizations to enhance maritime security, promote sustainable development of the blue economy, and maximize the benefits derived from Nigeria’s maritime resources.
