Tin Can Port Mayhem: NPA Broker Peace between LASTCOC, MWUN

Following the war of words and blame games that ensued between the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and the Lagos State Cargo and Transport Committee (LASTCOC) over the recent attack on truck drivers at the Tin Can Island Port by some hoodlums, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has sued for peace between both bodies.
The peace meeting according to sources who attended, was brokered by Chairman Project Implementation Committee, Apapa Port Manager Mr Charles Okaga and Mr Sylvester Egede Tincan Port Port Manager.
The MWUN delegation to the meeting was led by the President General, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju while LASTCOC was led by its Chairman, Alhaji Lukman Shittu Zangalo.
Speaking at the meeting, Chief Remi Ogungbemi , the grand patron of Nexus Association of Maritime Transport Operators (NAMTOP) called for peace and restraint so as not to disrupt the peace of the port.
He Urged parties to avoid making inflammatory statements that might fuel the ember of confrontation in the industry
Mr Charles Okaga and Sylvester Egede advised both parties to embrace peace and eschew any conduct that may likely disrupt the peace, operations, business and security in the port environment.
Both parties thanked the Apapa/Tincan Ports Managers, settled for peace, exchanged pleasantries and agree to work together to promote peace and traffic sanity for trade facilitation and seamless evacuation of cargoes from Ports.
Recall that this is not the first time violent clashes are being recorded along the Tin Can Port corridor with casualties.
