Following the approval for increase in the salary of workers of the agency, former Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Chief Adebayo Sarumi has called on the Minister of Transportation, Muazu Jaji Sambo to also increase the pension of retired staff of the agency.

Sarumi during his goodwill message at the Long Service and Merit Award of NPA on Saturday commended the current Managing Director, Mohammed Bello-Koko for celebrating workers who have put in 20-years of service at the agency.

According to him, Bello-Koko administration has done what successive Managing Directors failed to achieve in their own time.

“We are indeed grateful for what is happening here today, it is not often that the workers were remembered by successive MD’s of NPA.

“I was speaking to one of my colleagues and I asked if something like this took place in our time, he answered that we were too distracted for us to remember to do something like this.

“That’s why I am congratulating Mohammed Bello-Koko and the entire board members for remembering to take care of those who have served the agency for so long” he said

Speaking further, Sarumi noted that the increment in salary structure should also affect the retired staff of the agency.

“I suppose this increment would also affect the pensioners, but if not, just make sure our pension flows.
Our honorable minister sir, please increase our pensions”

“Every day I hear of what is happening in Nigerian Ports Authority and I am always very grateful that our work was not in vein.
The NPA, Ministry and port workers have made sure that our past works are not in vain.

“It doesn’t have to be promotion alone or increment, rewarding long service is critical to workers who have served a long time” he said
