There are indications that not less than 2,000 overtime containers have now been approved by the Nigeria Customs Service through the Uncleared Cargo List (UCL) for transfer from the Tin Can Island Port of Lagos to Ikorodu Government Warehouse, also known as Ikorodu terminal.

Acting Chairman of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) at Ikorodu chapter, Chief Martins Ikechukwu confirmed this to DAILY TREND exclusively on Friday.

The ANLCA top man said “We have hope by next year due to the approved 2000 container that as been allocated to us through (UCL) unclaimed Cargo List. From Tincan Island Port”

Meanwhile, stakeholders operating at the Ikorodu Terminal have tackled the terminal operator; Sapid Agency Limited over a recent arbitrary increment in it’s debit note from 180, 540.88 to 485,303. 38.

Even as the stakeholders already scheduled a protest against the terminal operators last week Monday, DAILY TREND reliably gathered however, that the Assistant Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service in charge of Zonal Headquarters ‘A’ Harvey Road Lagos, ACG Modupe Aremu on Thursday intervened in the impasse.

ACG Aremu reportedly directed Sapid Agency to reverse back to status quo because the increment was done without going through the proper process or passing through the legal department as instructed by the office of the Comptroller General of Customs, Col Hameed Ali (Rtd)

Confirming the development to our correspondent, Acting Chairman of ANLCA, Chief Martins Ikechukwu said that General Manager of Sapid Agency, Mr Francis Itsede has consequently instructed immediate reversal of the controversial charges.

He said “Francis Itsede the GMO of SAPID promise to cooperate by instructing the Terminal Manager, Mr Patrick to put the increment of the debit note on hold, pending when the necessary approval will be given from the customs headquarters.

“We disagreed and almost fought in the office of the ACG, myself and Mr Francis before the ACG now looked into my complain and considered that we have a point by saying that, this is a wrong time for increment as the terminal is battling scarcity of job”

“We have hope by next year due to the approved 2000 container that as been allocated to us through (UCL) unclaimed Cargo List. From Tincan Island Port” he said

Also present at the meeting was Comptroller R. C Nwoko (medical) of Zone ‘A’ Zonal Headquarters, as well as Assistant Comptroller Williams Opkabi in charge of Ikorodu Terminal.

Meanwhile, Mr Francis Itsede of SAPID has reportedly promised that the terminal would not disappoint in their area of participation as soon the commence of the overtime transfer from the major ports across the western zone to the Ikorodu government warehouse kicks off.
