NEWS FLASH: Customs Exchange Rate Increase to $422.3

The official exchange rate of the Nigeria Customs Service for cargo importation has increased from $409 dollars to $422.3 against the Naira.

There are indications that the latest increment has sparked angry reactions among clearing agents at the Nigerian ports.

Factional Public Relations Officer of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) at the Tin Can Island Port, Mrs Onome Monije who confirmed the development to our correspondent on Monday has however called for calm among the stakeholders.

She stated that the official exchange rate of the Nigeria Customs has been increased on the custom portal, urging agents to be guided in their subsequent transactions.

“Please, it not custom that control exchange rate, some of us are shouting war song, to who?honestly I don’t understand.

“0ur license is given to us by government to abide with all government policies, full stop. We can dialogue with our leaders to brainstorm procedures or policy which we think can be adjusted or amended with fact to enable them represent us with FG effectively.

“At this point I want to plead with our colleagues to always be truthful and carry their clients along in their dealing to save us uneccessary stress, tension and Blood pressure, because some are having serious issue as a result

“As at Friday, some have not paid duties in millions, but lied that they have done so. How do you reconcile the difference in hundreds today.

“The world is going Digital globally, Please, let us upgrade ourselves mentally, intellectually and physically to overcome challenges” she stated
