Shippers Council Partners NIS on Training, Capacity Building for Its Workforce

The Nigerian Shippers Council has expressed readiness to explore all the capacity building facilities available in the Nigerian Institute of Shipping (NIS) in order to equip its workers for better productivity.

Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Hon Emmanuel Jime stated this on Friday when he received executives of NIS at the Council headquarters in Apapa Lagos.

Jime acknowledged that already, majority of the brilliant minds who are staff of the agency already belong to NIS as fellows.

Speaking, he said “We would like to avail ourselves of all the facilities that are available in your institute.

“I am even asking myself why are we bothering to go out of the institute to look for trainings, we actually have very important needs as far as training is concerned, in order to equip our staff with the neccessary tools needed for us to be effective”

“I assure you that we would continue to partner with you in this regard ”

Jime also stated that, for the Nigerian Shippers Council to enjoy any amount of proficiency in its service delivery, a partnership with NIS is an important requirement to make the needed progress.

“I believe that this is consistent, the institute has clearly acquired a leading position as far as issues bothering on transport economics and maritme transport is concerned

“This meeting is needed to formalise a relationship that is already existing.

Jime promised to improve on the relationship hitherto enjoyed by both bodies.

Speaking earlier, National Vice President of NIS, Mr Segun Elufioye Johnson expressed readiness of the institute to collaborate with the Nigerian Shippers Council in terms of seminars, trainings.

He also used the opportunity to inform the Shippers Council boss about upcoming AGM of the Institute holding on 3rd of March 2022.

Mr Elufioye subsequently presented Hon Jime with a pre-AGM fellowship lapel.

Also speaking, Chairman Education Board of NIS, Prof Oyiola Oni said the NIS have been monitoring Hon Jime’s activities with keen interest since he resumed at the Council.

“As a body, we would give you whatever support you need to achieve your mandate, I also want to let you know that we have been having a long standing relationship with the Nigerian Shippers Council right from the era of Chief Adebayo Sarumi and so on.

“The NIS in its wisdom has collaborated with the University of Lagos and other universities across the country, we have been providing academic and professional training for institutions and other maritime agencies.

“On the development of ICDs’ across the country, we are ready to give you superb and genuine consultancies and information” he stated

Prof Oni equally solicited the support of Shippers Council in the coming AGM on 3rd of March.
