Hassan Bello: Demise of Capt Biu, A Deep Loss to Maritime Sector, Nation as a Whole

The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Barr Hassan Bello has mourned the passage of its immediate past Executive Secretary, Capt Adamu Biu, describing it as a deep loss to the industry and the nation as a whole.

News of Capt Biu’s demise filtered in on Monday.

According to Bello, “Capt Biu personified professionalism, astute
administration and knowledge. He stabilized the Council and led it at its most critical phase”

In a press statement signed by Rakiya Zubairu, head of Public Relations at the council, gloom was cast over the headquarters of the Council in Apapa when the news of the demise of Capt Biu filtered in.

She said Capt Biu was the third and immediate past Executive
Secretary/CEO of NSC and served two terms from (2004
-2012)

“Capt Biu brought his wealth of experience as a master
Mariner to connect the NSC to the industry and is credited with
pioneering works on Dry Ports and the regulatory status of the NSC”

“He was an internationalist who worked assiduously with Shippers’ Councils in Africa thereby bringing regional collaboration which subsists till date”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Association of Master Mariners have opened a condolence register for the late Capt Biu.

President of the association, Capt Tajudeen Alao confirmed this to DAILY TREND NEWS on Tuesday.

Biu was a former Vice President of the association.

He also served as a Master at the defunct Nigerian National Shipping Line (NNSL) from and at the Africa Ocean Lines in the 1980s.
