LASG Sets to Shutdown Rail Level Crossings for Railway Modernisation Project
In accordance with the ongoing Nigerian Railway Modernisation Project (Lagos-Ibadan section) with extension to Lagos Port, Apapa, the Lagos State Government has announced plans to close some Rail Level Crossing.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation in Lagos on Thursday.
The statement said that some area such as Ilupeju, Ogunmokun, Jibowu and Yaba Level Crossing would be closed as a result of the extension on rail modernisation project.
It explained that Ilupeju level crossing would be closed on Sunday Nov. 15th, Ogunmokun on Monday 16th, Jibowu and Yaba on Wednesday 18th of Nov., 2020 from 8:00pm to 7:00am each day.
The statement from the Ministry of Transportation further explained that this phase of construction works on the designated routes would focus on track adding that there would be dispersion and locking at various level crossing joints of the Standard Gauge Railway.
It said that Motorists were therefore advised to utilize alternative routes that had been provided during the daily closure to enhance free flow of traffic on the stated dates.
“Motorists plying Ilupeju level crossing would be diverted to Ogunmokun, Yaba and Jibowu Crossing to access their desired destinations.
“Those who are to access Ogunmokun Road or access other areas from Ogunmokun are advised to use Ilupeju crossing to Mushin, Oshodi and Surulere for their desired destinations.
“The identified alternative routes will be used interchangeably to ease movement, while assuring that Traffic Management Personnel will be on ground to ensure free flow of traffic during the construction period,” The statement said.
It said that the closure had been slated at night to minimize inconvenience in movement adding that Motorists were implored to comply with the traffic directions put in place to aid the smooth and uninterrupted flow of the construction schedule.
The State Govt, however, through the statement, appealed to residents of the State, especially motorists that ply those corridors to bear the pains, as the rail project was aimed at achieving a seamless multi modal transport system that will be beneficial to a larger population.
