There are indications that the Nigeria Customs Service is currently faced with a huge certificate scandal as two Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) and one Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) were said to have entered into the service without having the qualifications they claim to posses.

Reliable sources told DAILY TREND NEWS that the three affected officers (names witheld) have been notified by the customs management to retire voluntarily.

According to sources, the certificate scandal is currently shaking the customs management under the control of Col Hameed Ali to its core, even as the Comptroller-General was said to be foot dragging about taking serious actions on the matter.

“There is serious trouble at the customs headquarters in Abuja, the affected officers have been told to resign honorably but they have refused to go” the source said.

This is not the first time the customs management would be facing allegations of certificate forgery. In year 2009, the former Customs CGC, Alhaji Abdulahi Dikko was accused of forging all his certificates.

When DAILY TREND NEWS placed several calls to the National Public Relations Officer of Customs, Deputy Comptroller Joseph Attah to confirm the currently certificate saga, he did not pick his call.

Text messages sent to his phones were not also replied.

Efforts to also get other Public Relations officers react on the story proved abortive as none of them was willing to comment.
