LASWA Creates Fuel Station On Waterways

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has created fuel dump (fuel station) on the waterways, so as to serve the yearnings of boat operators for fuel supply while enroute destinations.

According to a press statement released by LASWA on Tuesday, the fuel dump project is primarily aimed at boosting water transport activities by selling petrol to boats on the inland waterways which further promotes safety.

It informed that the filling station is to be operated by IOGC being the agency of government in the downstream sector.
The station is expected to commence operation with effect from September 22, 2020 and it will sell fuel at official pump price.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of LASWA; Mr Emanuel has said that establishment of Ibile Oil & Gas Station at the authority’s headquarters would enhance safety culture on Waterways.

Emmanuel made the disclosure during the launching of Ibile Oil and Gas, Waterways Petrol Dump at the
authority’s headquarters in Lagos on Tuesday.

He said that the launching of Ibile Oil and Gas station would eradicate the habit of using kegs to get fuel into ferries.

According to him, the establishment of the fuel station will entrench the safety culture on Waterways.

“Before now, operators usually carry kegs as a way of getting petro and diesel on our Waterways but with the establishment of lbile oil and Gas Station this will eradicate proliferation and the use of kegs to transport fuel in the boats.

“The launching of Ibile Oil will instill safety culture and reduce water transport accidents while carrying petrol onboard their boats.

“Collaboration is very key, especially when we see the economy suffering from lack of resources, and if we are able to pull resources together, we will achieve much more,” Emmanuel said.

He said that such establishment would be expanded to Ikorodu, Ojo and other ferry stations in Lagos to ensure improvement of fuel infrastructure.
