Apapa Youths Congratulates APMT Country Manager, Calls for Employment

Residents and youths from Apapa community in Lagos under the aegis of United Apapa Youths Forum (UAYF) have congratulated the newly appointed country manager for APM Terminals Nigeria, Mr. Klaus Holm Laursen, charging him to focus on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for the youths.

Specifically, the group through its Grand Patron, His Royal Highness Victor Nangibo and the National President Comrade Abdulahi Suleiman appealed to APMT for employment of Apapa youths, alleging that youths in Apapa community have been marginalised and abandoned by terminal operators.

The President, Comrade Suleiman acknowledged effort of APM Terminals in creating empowerment for host communities in Onne Rivers State, saying that the ongoing employment in Onne should also be done in Apapa community as well.

In a statement sent to our correspondent, the UAYF said “Congratulations on your appointment as the country manager. We the United Apapa Youth Forum welcome you with open hearts and promise to work with you to achieve all successful goal for the development and peaceful coexistence of both APM terminal and Apapa community”

“May we also use this opportunity to bring to your notice that the CSR on youth development in Apapa have not been fufilled by APMT over these years, thereby maginalising the youth”

“We believe and trust that with your administrative experience, you will bring development to Apapa in general ,we are also using this medium to advise that the youth are to be dealt with as separate department in Apapa and not through any other individual or L.G.A.Chairman or government officials”

Klaus Holm Laursen was recently appointed as the new Country Manager for APM Terminals Nigeria.
In his new capacity, the Country Manager will oversee the operations of APM Terminals in Apapa, Onne and Kano.

Until his appointment, Mr. Laursen was the Managing Director of APM Terminals, Poti Seaport – the largest port in Georgia, handling liquids, dry bulk, passenger ferries and 85% of Georgia’s container traffic.

Mr. Laursen has worked with the Maersk Group since 1998 in various capacities and has served in various countries including Denmark, Malaysia, South Korea, Netherlands, Jordan and Egypt.
