The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has said that it has channelled the N100,000 palliative which was rejected by Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) into buying of sanitizers and face masks for port users.
According to Rev Emma Agubanze, head of special duties of NAGAFF, the protective equipment would be distributed to all freight forwarders at Nigerian ports, regardless of which associations they belong.
The association corrected that its donation of N100,000 palliative to ANLCA and other sister associations should not be misconstrued as arrogance, but should be seen as a response to the call by Federal Government for a collective action against COVID-19 pandemic.
Rev Agubanze however insisted that NAGAFF is more richer than ANLCA whom according to him is going through financial crisis, but only rejected the N100,000 based on “foolish pride”
He alleged that ANLCA is going through  internal crisis with less than N150,000 in its account balance, and that its various chapters have since refused to remit money to the national secretariat.
“Indeed NAGAFF had since directed that the N100,000 they refused to collect should be added to the amount allocated to purchase sterilizers and face masks for NAGAFF members and share it to all the young freight forwarders at the ports whether it is NAGAFF or ANLCA or NCMDLCA or AREFFN or NAFFAC”
“What is important to NAGAFF is the safety of the lives of the young freight forwarders operating at the Customs ports”
“What NAGAFF is doing does not suggest that she has too much money even though she is richer than ANLCA, but to respond to call of the government for a collective action to stem the rampaging fatality of COVID-19 pandemic”
“Under COVID- 19 pandemic fatality, NAGAFF thought it a humanitarian responsibility to help her sister association (ANLCA) but what she got was refused based on egocentrism or what one may call “foolish pride”
“We can now ask ourselves the rationale of the action with an account balance of less than one hundred and fifty thousand naira” he said
NAGAFF however assured that it would not relent in its resolve to continue to provide leadership and help its sister associations.
Agubanze recalled the role of NAGAFF in the last elections into the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) which had brought about stability into the sector.
He said “You would recall that in the last general election of CRFFN, out of 1, 300 registered voters, NAGAFF had 1,100”
“The same ANLCA who refused our benevolence shared the remaining votes with NCMDLCA, NAFFAC AND AREFFN. It took the intervention of the Founder of NAGAFF, Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam to accommodate ANLCA with equal number of six slots into the Governing Board of CRFFN”
“The other three small groups were given one slot each into the CRFFN Board”
