The Nigeria Customs Service has detained an Assistant Superintendent of the Nigeria Customs Service, Nura Dalhatu in the hospital for attempting to take over power from the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col Hameed Ali.

In a dramatic fashion yesterday at the customs headquarters in Abuja, Nura had stormed the customs CGC office, claiming that President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed him to take over from the Customs boss.

Nura who was an Assistant Supretendent was wearing the rank of a Deputy Comptroller General.

The officer was later discovered to be unstable by officers at the headquarters and was subsequently arrested.

He has been hospitalised after showing traits of mental ailments at the office on Monday.

Joseph Attah, National Public Relations Officer of Customs, told journalists that Nura has been confined to an hospital and needs the prayer of Nigerians to get well again.

Mr Attah said the officer was questioned about his action but replied in a manner that indicated he was mentally challenged.

“It was obvious that he was not in the right frame of mind,” Mr Attah said. “From the question and the answer he gave.”

Mr Attah said the official has been taken to the hospital for appropriate evaluation and treatment, urging Nigerians to show sympathy towards his condition and pray for his quick recovery.

He urged Nigerians to dismiss social media rumour that the officer wanted to take over the position of the Comptroller General, saying the development was too serious for any serious citizen to mock or use to further a sinister agenda.
