Flying Eagles Monday night crashed out of this year’s U20 World Cup after they lost 2-1 to fellow West Africans Senegal in Lodz.
The Young Teranga Lions, who stopped Nigeria 2-0 in the final of the WAFU U20 Nations Cup in December, took the lead in the 36th minute through danger man Sagna with a cool finish.
Nigeria U20s had chances to draw level through substitute Yera Sor off a quick counter attack.
And on 43 minutes, the Flying Eagles failed to make the most of a promising free kick from the edge of the Senegal box after the lively Sor was fouled.
In first half stoppage time, Ibrahima Niane made it 2-0 when he tapped home from the near post after some good work from the right wing.
The Flying Eagles pulled a goal back on 50 minutes, when Success Makanjuola’s free kick was deflected into the Senegal net.
The outstanding Aniekeme Okon was later credited with the goal.
The Flying Eagles continued to chase the game and enjoyed a better ball possession, but it was too little, too late as Nigeria said goodbye to Poland.
The team also crashed out at the same stage of the competition four years ago in New Zealand.
