The Maritme Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has declared strategic partnership with the Senior Staff Association of Shipping, Clearing & Forwarding Agency (SSASCFA) in order to unionise more Shipping companies in the Nigerian Maritime and Blue Economy sector.

The President-General of MWUN, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi stated this on Wednesday when he received the SSASCFA led by its President General, Comrade Harrison Ugochukwu Asonye
at its headquarters in Osho Drive, Olodo Apapa, Lagos.

Comrade Bunu noted that there is a disconnect between the two unions, especially the Shipping branch of MWUN, arguing that there are Shipping companies where MWUN is present, but SSASCFA is yet to unionise the senior staff of such companies.

The PG of the Senior Staff Association of Shipping says says the visit to MWUN was to rekindle the Association’s longtime relationship, stressing that there’s no way the Association can operate in isolation, noting that the existing cordial relationship must be reawakened for operational efficiency.

Comrade Bunu thanked the PG of the SSASCFA for the gesture of his visit, which he described was in good path of honour, faith in the Union and timely too.

He reminded Comrade Harrison that the Maritme Workers’ Union of Nigeria has the junior cadre of the Shipping representation, noting that there has been a disconnect between the two arms of the Shipping representations.

Comrade Bunu, assured the Association of his unwavering commitment and the Union’s support towards this noble objective of rekindling the relationship between the two bodies for expected mutual benefits, progress and development of the maritimer industry.
