The maritime community in Nigeria is abuzz with celebration and reflection today as Prince Olayiwola Shittu, former National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), marks his 75th birthday.

Leading the chorus of tributes is the Vice President of ANLCA, Prince Segun Oduntan, who described Prince Shittu as a transformative leader who revolutionized the association’s politics and left an indelible legacy in the maritime industry.

“Prince Olayiwola Shittu is not just a leader; he is a symbol of grace, strength, and integrity. His tenure brought stability, professionalism, and entrepreneurial drive to ANLCA.

“He raised the bar in our politics and governance, and the maritime industry continues to benefit from the foundation he laid.” Prince Segun Oduntan stated in his birthday message

Shittu, who served as ANLCA National President from 2010 to 2018, is widely regarded as the longest-serving and most impactful leader in the history of the association. His leadership period is remembered for unifying a once-fragmented body and elevating it into a credible and respected force in Nigeria’s freight forwarding and customs brokerage landscape.

A former civil servant with the Nigerian Ports Authority, Shittu’s career journey has been one of vision, resilience, and unmatched dedication. Beyond ANLCA, he played a pivotal role in regulatory development as the pioneer Publicity Secretary of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), cementing his reputation as a maritime trailblazer.

The ANLCA Vice President while speaking further, stated that “Prince Shittu’s integrity is unquestionable, and his wisdom continues to serve as a compass for many of us. Even during turbulent times within ANLCA, he remained steadfast, he is a retired but unconquered lion.”

Prince Shittu’s influence, however, transcends boardroom politics. A committed philanthropist and mentor, he is known for his generosity toward the underprivileged and his support for the maritime media and professional community.

A devout Muslim with a liberal and inclusive outlook, he is also celebrated as a family man and patriot whose values reflect true Nigerian unity.

Described as a “consummate leader” and “President Emeritus,” Prince Shittu’s name resonates across the freight forwarding industry not only for the positions he held, but for the progress and professionalism he inspired. His legacy is one of enduring service, ethical leadership, and national contribution.

“As we celebrate this milestone, October 15 will forever stand as a day to honour a man whose life and service continue to inspire generations in the maritime industry and beyond.” Oduntan concluded.

Prince Olayiwola Shittu’s journey remains a beacon—an iroko tree under which many have found shade and guidance in Nigeria’s ever-evolving maritime space.
