MWUN, Ports Authority Police Command Reaffirm Commitment to Security, Welfare of Maritime Workers

The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, Olanrewaju Olawale Ishola on Tuesday 5th of August 2025 received the President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, and his National Executive Council members on a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Lagos.

The visit, which underscored the importance of sustained collaboration between law enforcement agencies and critical stakeholders in the maritime sector, provided an avenue for both parties to reaffirm their commitment to the safety, security, and welfare of maritime workers and the integrity of port operations.

In his remarks, the President-General appreciated the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command for its strategic role in securing Nigeria’s port environment and ensuring industrial harmony in the maritime domain. He emphasized the Union’s readiness to work hand-in-hand with the Police to address any security concerns, promote lawful conduct among union members, and ensure smooth operations within the ports.

Responding, CP Olanrewaju Olawale Ishola commended the Union leadership for its proactive engagement and reiterated the Command’s dedication to building a peaceful and crime-free maritime space.

He noted that effective policing of port facilities cannot be achieved in isolation, stressing the need for continued synergy and information sharing between the Police and stakeholders like the MWUN.

The Commissioner further assured the visiting delegation of the Command’s readiness to provide enabling support, enforce the law fairly, and protect all stakeholders in the maritime sector.

The visit concluded with a brief interactive session and the exchange of goodwill messages, solidifying the resolve of both institutions to deepen cooperation in pursuit of a safer, more productive maritime industry.
