NIMASA Secures Release of Five Abducted Maritime Workers, as Union Commends Bashir Jamoh

The eight Nigerians, among them five members of the Maritime Workers of Nigeria (MWUN) kidnaped by gunmen in Rivers State waters on Monday have regained their freedom.

This is even as the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has commended the effort of the Director General of NIMASA, Dr Bashir Jamoh in ensuring the release of their members.

In a press statement at the weekend signed by President General of MWUN, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju appreciated the critical and central role played by Dr. Bashir Jamoh, and his immediate and decisive action of deploying the awesome arsenal of the deep blue project to use in securing the release of our kidnapped members as well as other Nigerians.

“On this note we want to urge NIMASA to continue in its good work of providing safety in our water ways and especially provide this in the riverine and creeks which seem to be more prone and vulnerable to pirate attacks. We pledge MWUN Willingness to continue to partner and collaborate in the onerous task of ensuring safety in our water ways” he stated

NIMASA in a press statement at the weekend also said The release of the abducted travellers at the weekend is sequel to the intervension of the Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh and other stakeholders.

The DG of NIMASA broke the news after a phone conversation with the President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigerian (MWUN), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju at about 8:15pm Saturday.

The abductees are believed to be in good physical condition and the MWUN President General is expected to provide detailed report on the incidents surrounding the abduction early next week.

The eight persons were travelling to Port Harcourt from Kula area in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, before the gunmen abducted them at the Kula-Abonnema waterway.
