Transport Institutes; CIOTA, CILT Nigeria Sets for Merger

There are indications that two foremost transport institutions; Chattered Institute of Transport Administration (CIOTA) and Chattered Institute of Logistics Transport (CILT) are already in discussions on how to form a merger in order to put an end to transportation challenges in Nigeria.
President of CIOTA, Dr Bashir Jamoh disclosed this in Lagos recently during a chat with journalists.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had in 2019 given assent to the bill establishing the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIOTA) .
With this, CIOTA became the only institute recognised by law to superintendent activities of transport professionals in Nigeria.
Speaking with journalists, Dr Jamoh who is also the Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) opened up on the underground moves by leadership of both Institute to form a merger.
He said “Today, CIOTA is the one that has the chatter as recognised by the Nigerian law, but as I speak with you today, we are having talks between CIOTA and CILT to merge so that we can have a formidable force”
“We look at ourselves to evaluate our strengths, in CIOTA we discovered we have so many professors and academicians, while CILT has quality memberships, so if they should bring their quality memberships and we bring our academicians, we would be able to move together”
Dr. Jamoh had gotten the CIOTA charter finalised within four months of his becoming the President in 2019.
Meanwhile the CILT is equally pursuing its charter, but for now it is only operating a United Kingdom chatter which does not hold firm grounds because the Institute cannot ‘bite’ in Nigeria.
