The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Lekki Port chapter, has formally welcomed the Acting Customs Area Controller of the Lagos Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Deputy Comptroller Olufemi Kukoyi, assuring him of the full cooperation of all licensed customs agents operating at the port.
The chapter’s Chairman, Alhaji Yakubu Mustapha, extended the welcome on behalf of the association’s members in a statement on Wednesday.
He congratulated Kukoyi on his new responsibility and described the command as one of the most strategic in the country’s trade architecture, given the growing volume of cargo passing through the Lekki deep seaport.
He noted that licensed agents at the port were ready to work with the new Controller in ensuring smooth cargo clearance, strict compliance with customs procedures, and improved revenue generation for the Federal Government.
According to him, a healthy working relationship between the Command and its stakeholders is essential to sustaining the efficiency and competitiveness of the Lekki Port.
Mustapha also urged the Acting Controller to sustain an open-door policy, so that operational challenges affecting agents and their clients can be addressed promptly and amicably.
The ANLCA chairman added that the chapter would continue to sensitise its members on the need to adhere to extant regulations, adopt best practices, and embrace the digital platforms deployed by the Service to promote transparency and ease of doing business.
While taking over office from his predecessor, Compt Hauwa Abubakar (rtd) in a ceremony held on Wednesday, Deputy Comptroller Olufemi Kukoyi had thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for the confidence reposed in him, assuring the NCS leadership that he would approach the responsibility with loyalty and a strong sense of duty.
Kukoyi paid tribute to his predecessor, acknowledging the foundation she had laid in revenue generation, trade facilitation, enforcement and stakeholder management.
He said his administration would focus on consolidation, collaboration and innovation, while pursuing maximum revenue collection, effective trade facilitation and strong border security.
Kukoyi also pledged to strengthen enforcement and discipline among officers, stressing that the Command must maintain high professional standards while serving legitimate businesses operating within the Free Zone environment.
Technology, he said, would remain central to his approach, with emphasis on transparent and time-bound processes, support for the National Single Window and the One-Stop Shop mechanism.
He also promised zero tolerance for compromise, with the aim of making the Lagos Free Trade Zone Command a reference point for efficient Customs operations.
