The Lagos State Chairman of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO) Alhaji Lukman Shittu, popularly known as Zangalo, has congratulated the newly elected President General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) Comrade Francis Bunu.

Zangalo in a congratulatory message at the weekend described Bunu as a professional unionist and a worthy successor of Comrade Adewale Adeyanju who bowed out on Friday to assume the role of Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman of the union.

“I want to specially congratulate my brother and friend, the new PG of MWUN, Comrade Francis Bunu and wish him well in office. There is no doubt that Bunu is man whom the cap fits, and we are confident that he would carry on the legacies of his predecessor, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju who has ensured industrial peace in the maritime and haulage business and enthronement of workers rights

“For us at AMATO, we assure you of our hundred percent support and collaboration, even as we continue to strengthen the existing relationship between AMATO and the Union. We encourage you to keep the flag flying.
“We urge you to continue advocating for improved operational efficiency at the port terminals and fight against extortion and safety issues affecting truck drivers” Shittu who also doubles as the Chairman of Lagos State Truck and Cargo Committee (LASTCOC) stated.

Bunu had emerged unopposed in an election that took place during the 6th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference of the union in Lagos on Friday. He is from the Seafarers branch of the union.
