AIG Maritime Police Engages Shippers Council, NAGAFF, Shipping Terminal Managers to Enhance Port Security and Efficiency

Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command, Garba Musa Yusuf, has embarked on a series of strategic engagements with key stakeholders in the maritime sector to bolster security and improve operational efficiency at Nigerian ports.

On February 12, 2025, AIG Yusuf and his team visited the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) to discuss collaborative strategies. The AIG emphasized that cooperation with relevant bodies is crucial for success in securing the port environment. Discussions focused on how to conduct business at the ports while minimizing criminal activity. The Executive Secretary of the NSC commended the AIG for his proactive approach and humility in initiating the visit.

Prior to the NSC visit, on February 11, 2025, AIG Yusuf met with terminal and shipping line managers to address the issue of cargo movement from ports. The focus was on preventing disruptions caused by criminal elements who target cargo owners. The AIG assured the managers that their concerns would be addressed and stressed the importance of their active participation in port security by providing necessary information to law enforcement.

Earlier, on February 10, 2025, the executive members of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) met with AIG Yusuf to discuss ways to streamline port operations and eliminate delays. The meeting underscored the commitment of the Maritime Police to working closely with freight forwarders to create a more secure and efficient port environment.

These series of meetings demonstrate a concerted effort by the AIG Maritime Police to foster collaboration and communication among stakeholders in the maritime sector. The goal is to create a secure and efficient environment for port operations, ultimately benefiting all involved in the import and export process.
