Tin Can Island Customs Controller, Compt Frank Onyeka Partners AIG Maritime Police on Port Security

Comptroller Frank Onyeka, the Customs Area Controller of the Tin Can Island Port Command, Lagos, paid a crucial visit to the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command, AIG Garba Musa Yusuf on February 6, 2025.
Accordind to the Public Relations Officer of the Maritime Police Command, ASP Okoi Arikpo, the primary focus of the meeting was to forge a stronger collaborative partnership between the two agencies to combat crime within the port and its surrounding areas, ultimately facilitating smoother trade operations.
AIG Garba Musa Yusuf warmly received Comptroller Onyeka and his team, expressing his appreciation for the visit.
He pledged the full cooperation of the Maritime Police in ensuring ease of doing business at the port.
While speaking, AIG Yusuf emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration, cautioning against the practice of undermining other security organizations.
He reassured Comptroller Onyeka of the Maritime Police’s commitment to protecting lives and property within the port environment and affirmed that his office would remain accessible for ongoing communication and collaboration.
DAILY TREND reports that this initiative follows the Tin Can Island Customs Command’s implementation of 24-hour port operations in 2024.
While this round-the-clock service aims to expedite cargo clearance, reports indicate that clearing agents have not fully capitalized on the opportunity, largely due to concerns about security and access to the port at night.
