N12Trillion Revenue Target: Clearing Agents Await Clarification from Customs CG

Following reports of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance increasing the revenue projections for the Nigerian Customs Service from the proposed N6.5trn to N12 trillion in the 2025 appropriation bill, the port trade community, especially the clearing and forwarding agents have sought clarification from the customs as to which figure it was working with for the year.

In an exclusive chat with DAILY TREND on Monday, Western Zone Coordinator of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) Alhaji Femi Anifowoshe appealed to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi to look at implementation of the 2025 with human face.

According to him, the Customs is yet to cascade down the revenue target to all commands, and stakeholders are earnestly awaiting in order to know the fate of their businesses.

Anifowoshe stated that projecting high revenue targets for the customs would definitely be borne by Nigerians who are the end users of goods and services.

“We are waiting for the customs to breakdown the revenue targets, but I know the customs and the Federal Government would not want to put Nigerians into hardship, because the N12trillion target would still go back to the masses.
We are trusting the government and customs would do the right thing.

“We are just starting a new year, and we are still waiting for business to kick-start, we have much faith in the CGC to do justice to Nigerian importers based on the target the government is expecting from customs” Anifowoshe stated.

On the upcoming chapter elections into the AssociationofNigerianLicensedCustomsAgents (ANLCA), Anifowoshe assured that much confidence has been reposed on the Associations Electoral Committee (ASECO) to deliver a free and fair election.

“We should a very free and fair election where there would be no problems. We have faith in the ASECO to do a thorough job” he said
