MWUN Lifts Embargo On 2025 Electoral Campaigns, Says All Elections to Hold in Lagos

—Adeyanju Cautions Contestants Against Campaign of Calumny

Even as the election into various positions of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) is set to hold in March 2025, President General of the union, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju has said that embargo on campaign activities has been lifted and that campaign commences from 6th January 2025.

Speaking at a recent meeting with members of the union at its headquarters in Olodi Apapa Lagos, Comrade Adeyanju also assured that all the elections are going to hold in Lagos, because according to him, Lagos is the seat of power for the union and all the four branches of the union are headquartered in Lagos.

The union leader however cautioned contestants and delegates against campaign of calumny, saying that the union has to prove to the world that they are more refined.
Comrade Adeyanju cautioned that the forthcoming election is not a do or die affair, even as he advised contestants to focus their campaign on what they would do for the betterment of the union.

Speaking, he said “Campaign has been lifted from 6th of January. But, no campaign of calumny or destruction, rather you should campaign on what you plan to do for the workers.

“We are not politicians, APC or PDP, we are union of workers, we are not local workers, we are international workers, so, campaign vigorously to convince the whole world that you would do better than Adeyanju, these are the campaigns we want to see.

“This election is not a do or die affair, if you cannot get it this time around, you will get it some other time, if your colleague wins the election, just congratulate him. I congratulated many people that lost election against me and brought many of them into the system, including those that worked against me.

“We are dockworkers and not road transport workers, our attitude should be different this time around.

“It is to the glory of all of you that I conducted the election of all the four branches here in this hall, it has never happened before. On my second tenure, I equally conducted the election here in Lagos because this is the seat of power for the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria.

“We were able to shame those people that call us agbero ,and proved to them that we can handle our issues without external forces, this coming election again, we are doing it in Lagos.

“This is the seat of power, I have all the four branches headquartered here in Lagos, so, why am I taking the election to Lokoja, Anambra or Abuja?”
