WISTA Nigeria President, Dr Odunayo Ani Lauds Nigerian Dockworkers for Role in Nation’s Economy

President of Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA Nigeria) Dr Odunayo Ani has lauded the contribution of Nigerian dockworkers to growing the nation’s economy.
Speaking at the 2024 Day of the Dockworkers tagged “Safety First, Efficiency Always” held in Surulere Lagos, last week, Dr Ani states that the dockworkers through their labor, expertise, and passion gives strength to Nigerian
economy.
“WISTA Nigeria joins the world today in celebrating the tireless efforts,
dedication, and commitment of all dockworkers in keeping global trade
moving” she said
According to her, some of the very key contributions of the Dockworkers in the global economy includes; Global trade facilitation by ensuring smooth loading and unloading of cargo ships, facilitating international trade and commerce.
“Economic Growth, by efficiently handling cargo, dockworkers help
maintain the flow of goods, supporting economic growth and
development.
“Job creation. The dockwork provides employment opportunities for
thousands of people worldwide, contributing to local and national
economies.
“Food and goods distribution through delivery of essential goods,
including food, medicine, and clothing, to communities around the
world.
“Environmental protection through participation in sustainability
initiatives, such as reducing carbon emissions and promoting eco friendly practice
“Community development by engaging in local community development projects, supporting initiatives that improve the quality of life for residents.
“Emergency response and relief by responding to natural disasters and humanitarian crises, providing essential support and supplies.
“Infrastructure maintenance by maintaining and repair of port infrastructure, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of goods.
“Supporting national security by handling military equipment and supplies, supporting defense operations and humanitarian missions.
“Preserving Maritime Heritage by conserving maritime history and culture by maintaining traditional skills and knowledge.
“WISTA Nigeria acknowledge the importance of safe working conditions, fair labor practices, and continued investment in the maritime industry.
