AIG Maritime Police, Augustina Ogbodo Visits NPA, Aims to Strengthen Maritime Security and Enhanced Synergy

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Augustina Ogbodo, recently appointed head of the Maritime Police Command at Force Headquarters Annex in Obalende, Lagos, has pledged to foster stronger collaboration between the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Maritime Police.

During a courtesy visit to the NPA’s General Manager of Security, AIG Ogbodo emphasized the importance of a harmonious relationship between NPA stakeholders, the police, and the wider public to advance security within Nigeria’s maritime sector.

Received warmly by NPA officials, Ogbodo expressed her commitment to deepening cooperation with maritime stakeholders, especially the Maritime Police Command, to bolster safety across the industry. In her remarks, she underscored the police’s primary mission to protect lives and apprehend criminals, both within Nigerian waters and beyond.

AIG Ogbodo brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State. She is the 21st Assistant Inspector General and one of only four women to hold this leadership role in the Maritime Police Command. Known for her zero-tolerance stance on corruption, harassment, and intimidation, Ogbodo aims to ensure that maritime police officers uphold the highest standards of professionalism.

Her vision includes not only securing waterways and ports but also maintaining land-based security around maritime facilities. She emphasized her open-door policy, fostering accessible communication channels within the command and with maritime industry players, while encouraging synergy with other agencies operating in Nigeria’s coastal and port areas.

With her extensive experience across various policing areas in Nigeria, AIG Ogbodo is committed to reinforcing the security and integrity of Nigeria’s maritime operations, ensuring a safe environment for the industry’s continued growth.
