NAMTOP Faction Dissociates from Planned Nationwide Protest

The Alhaji Lukman Shittu Zangalo faction of the National Association of Maritime Transport Operators (NAMTOP) has warned truck operators to disregard the message by the Yinka Aroyewun faction calling for truckers to join in the upcoming Nationwide Protest, even as it warned truck operators not to participate in the Protest.

In a public notice signed by NAMTOP President, Alhaji Lukman Shittu Zangalo on Saturday, he called on the Federal and State Governments as well security agencies to hold Yinka Aroyewun and his faction responsible for any breakdown of law and order, or any attack on public life, property and Ports infrastructure of the maritime industry.

Zangalo urged his faction members in the maritime trucking community to remain peaceful, law abiding and pursue their business activities without fear and report any suspicious and mischievous moves to the nearest Police Authority.

“Our attention has been drawn to a press release by YINKA AROYEWUN faction of the National Association of Maritime Transport Operators (NAMTOP) on their plan to join National Protest on Bad Governance slated for August 1-08- 2024

“We wish to categorically inform the public that our faction of National Association of Maritime Transport Operators (NAMTOP) is not participating in any protest. No peaceful protest has ever end in peace.

“The economy of Lagos State and Nigeria is yet to recover from the devastating outcome of END SARS PROTEST that started on the template of peaceful protest. As law abiding faction of NAMTOP, we believe in dialogue as positive tool of dispute resolution. We are committed to proferring solutions to the challenges of Maritime Trucking operations through diplomatic manner of approach with the Authorities.

“We are calling on Federal and State Governments as well security agencies to hold Yinka Aroyewun and his faction responsible for any breakdown of law and order, attack on public life, property and Ports infrastructure of the maritime industry.

“Presently, NAMTOP does not have leadership structure not to talk of State Chairman or President because the leadership tussle of the Association is before the Lagos State High Court and the court with suit number ID/7478GCM/2024. The Court is yet to pass its judgement in favour of any faction.

“Therefore, neither of the 2 faction has the locus standi to parade itself in any capacity before the public as the representative of the Association.

We urge our faction members in the maritime trucking community to remain peaceful, law abiding and pursue their business activities without fear and report any suspicious and mischievous moves to the nearest Police Authority”
