Fresh indications have emerged that the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi is presently in China to understudy the Chinese Customs in regards to the Authorised Economic Operators (AEO) program which is being championed by the Nigerian Customs.

This indication was dropped on Monday by the new Sheriff in Town at the Apapa Customs Command, Compt Babatunde Olomu while he was taking over mantle of leadership from his predecessor, Comptroller Babajide Jaiyeoba.

DAILY TREND reports that the Nigerian Customs is championing the AEO program to enhance the efficiency and predictability of trade facilitation efforts in the country.

CGC Adeniyi, during a recent stakeholders Meeting in Abuja said the program would foster collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service, Other Government Agencies (OGAs) and Experts to boost AEO programmes.

However, speaking at the Apapa command on Monday, Compt Babatunde Olomu hinted that “As we speak, the CGC and some key management of Customs are in China, understudying the Chinese customs in regards to the AEO as well as other best practices of the WCO

“I want to urge all officers to brace up for the changes that would kickoff as fallout of Customs modernization, AEO and other groundbreaking WCO innovations as well as the recently launched Advance Ruling

“This would enable them to enjoy more in trading across borders in the global supply chain in line with the Revised Kyoto Convention” he said

The key benefits of the AEO program include expedited Customs clearance procedures and the establishment of mutual trust between Customs authorities and accredited operators.
