Hoodlums generating revenue from traffic anarchy on 6th of February 2024 launched an attack on members of Lagos State Truck and Cargo Committee (LASTCOC) even as a motor boy was allegedly shot dead, while three others sustained matchet and bullet injuries.

In a letter to the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Chairman of LASTCOC, Alhaji Lukman Shittu Zangalo, an e-copy of which was sent go DAILY TREND, he said “The committee members came under heavy gun and cuttlass attack of miscreants/hoodlums generating revenue from traffic anarchy that is sabotaging Authorities effort to enhance traffic orderliness, trade facilitation and seamless evacuation of cargoes at the Tincan Port corridor.

“During the attack, a motor boy was shot dead by the miscreants while three others sustained matchet and bullet injuries.

“Recall on the 6th of December 2023, our members came under attack by same miscreants at the Tincan Second Gate when we embarked on road clearance operation exercise together with the members of NPA and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) where our vehicle was damaged, LASTMA personnel wounded and one of the miscreant was whisked away by the Police as attempted to snatch riffle from a security personnel in our team.

“We are calling on all our members as usual, to remain peaceful and law abiding as the matter is presently handle by the Police Authority to ensure the pertrators of this dastardly act brought to justice.

“As for LASTCOC, no amount of threat, intimidation, attack, cheap blackmail by the beneficiaries of traffic anarchy in the maritime industry would make us back off from our mandate and determination to promote traffic sanity, trade facilitation, seamless evacuation of cargo and ease of doing business in the ports in the best interest of our national economy and haulage business.

“While appreciating the ongoing demolition of shanties serving as weapon arsenal and hideouts for criminals and extortion bandits by the authorities, accept assurances of our esteemed regards” the letter read
