NIMASA, Navy Deepening Collaboration to end IUU Fishing, Others
The DG NIMASA Dr Bashir Jamoh OFR paid a working visit to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral E I Ogala in a quest to deepen the relationship between NIMASA and the Nigerian Navy for the collective good of the Nigerian Maritime industry.
They discussed areas of collaboration to ensure the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR in creating the Marine and Blue Economy Ministry are achieved in good time.
According to a press statement issued by Edward Osagie, Assistant Director Public Relations of NIMASA, :”The issue of illegal Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing was discussed and they are exploring new vistas to ensure Nigerians enjoy the benefits of natural resources in the maritime industry”
We have all seen the recent positive changes in the Aviation, via the highly commendable actions taken by the current Minister of Aviation, Chief Festus Keyamo (SAN). We eagerly await similar action from the Minister for Maritime and Blue Economy. The Regulatory Agencies in the Maritime Industry in Nigeria need to be regulated by a superior Agency, the duplicity of their functions shd be quickly addressed. There recurrent incidents of corruption, compromises, abuses and mismanagement among and within all the current regulatory Agencies, including and particularly NIMASA.
