TRADE FACILITATION: Customs Begin Implementation of Time Release Studies, CG Appoints Compt Nnadi Chairman

The Nigeria Customs Service has commenced the implementation of the Time Release Studies (TRS) at Nigerian Ports in order to ensure quick evacuation of cargoes from the ports, even as the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has appointed the Area Controller of Tin Can Island Command, Compt Dera Nnadi as Chairman of the TRS.
The Time Release Study is a concept of the World Custom Organization (WCO).
It is a scientific way of measuring the time it takes between the time of arrival of goods and the time of clearance.
With the implementation of the Time Release Studies, the customs, terminal operators, shipping companies and all other stakeholders are expected to work towards 24-hour cargo clearance to make Nigeria the hub in West and Central Africa region.
While speaking on Tuesday night when he received the Vice President of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) Prince Segun Oduntan, Compt Dera Nnadi disclosed that the Time Release Studies is aimed at optimizing service delivery at Nigerian ports.
Speaking, he said “Just today, we held a meeting with the World Custom Organization. The CG of Customs was part of it. The meeting was held online.
“I will show you the pictures of that, we are going to commence time-release studies, this is to study how long it takes for cargo to exit our port, starting from the time the ship arrived, to the time the container is taken out of the port, to the owner’s warehouse.
“We are going to invite stakeholders like ANLCA and other government agencies to be part of that, and by the grace of God, I am the Chairman of that Time Release Studies.
“The CG nominated me to represent the Nigeria Customs Service, and I am going to work with people like Donia Amani from WTO in Geneva,
with Paul Struthers from WCO and Amani. And then I have ACG Alfa in Abuja to also work with us.
“So, this is what we are going to do. All this is aimed at optimizing service delivery in the port” Nnadi stated
