Barely two months after port terminal operators went ahead to hike their handling charges by 600 percent, there are indications that shipping companies in Nigeria have followed suit by increasing their charges.

This indication is coming from one of the shipping companies; Comet Shipping Agencies Nigeria Limited which announced at the weekend that, effective from December 1st 2023, its charges would be increased.

A memo issued by Comet Shipping to all clearing agents reads which was sighted by DAILY TREND reads
“EFFECTIVE 15” OF DECEMBER 2023, THERE WILL BE INCREASE IN OUR TARIFF. THIS ADJUSTMENT IS ESSENTIAL TO ENABLE US TO CONTINUE DELIVERING — EXCEPTIONAL SERVICES EXPECTED OF US.

“WE UNDERSTAND THAT CHANGES IN TARIFF May Be CHALLENGING, AND WE WANT TO ASSURE YOU THAT WE REMAIN COMMITTED TO PROVIDING THE BEST POSSIBLE SERVICES”
