ANLCA Election: Fear Grip Aspirants, Delegates Over Demand for 2023 Valid Licenses

…Customs Urged to be Apolitical

The Association’s Electoral Committee (ASECO) of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has concluded the collation of voters licenses in the forthcoming National Executive Committee (NECOM) elections 2023.

ASECO has also said that screening of the collated licenses would begin on Monday 4th of September 2023 at JoyGate Hotel and Suits along Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ajao Estate, Lagos.

Recall that the Customs Consultative Committee (CCC) had insisted that 2023 valid Customs licenses should be used to screen contestants and delegates.

Reports reaching DAILY TREND on Wednesday however indicated that many of the delegates so far screened by ASECO do not possess the 2023 valid Customs licenses and are now scrambling at the Customs headquarters Abuja, in a last minute attempt to smuggle-in their licenses, even after expiration of ASECO collation.

A grapevine source from one of the political camps who spoke with our correspondent under anonymity, pleaded with the Customs Controller in charge of Licenses and Permits to try and be apolitical as far as ANLCA Election 2023 is concerned.

“There are indications that some groups want to storm the Customs Headquaters, specifically, the office of Licenses and Permits Controller.

“The submission of voters list has ended yesterday midnight, but we have gathered that there is an attempt to sneak-in more licenses that are not hitherto registered.
We want the Customs to be Apolitical as far as ANLCA Election is concerned.

“The CCC has imposed on ASECO to make use of the 2023 licenses as approved by Customs, this means that both ASECO members, Board members, and Voters must possess 2023 licenses renewed.

“This has caught many of the chapter executives unprepared as many of them do not have licenses. Many of them were still trying to process their licenses with the Customs.

“You know, when you are a chapter executive, you can get a lot of things done without licenses, and this usually make the chapter executives relax on their oars and not renew their licenses”

The grapevine source also claimed that the licenses so far collated by ASECO were not more than 40.

“These 40 are still going to be pruned down because the instruction is that it must be 2023 renewed licenses” he said

Recall that the CCC at its last harmonizatio meeting on ANLCA Elections held on 23rd of August 2023 at Rockview Hotel Apapa agreed that, the total considerate and acceptable electorates to be enlisted to make the voters lists is 93 members, which includes: the Chapter Executives = 61; BOT members = 8 and Aspirants = 24.

Meanwhile, the ASECO has now fixed the election to hold on 7th of September 2023 at the Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island Lagos.

Also going by the ASECO guidelines, campaigns and every other activities has been brought to an end, while the contestants and their supporters look forward to the D-Day.
