Concerned members of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has condemned a clandestine meeting between the Board of Trustees and the Association Electoral Committee (ASECO) which held at the association National Secretariat in Lagos on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, only three out of the eight members of the board were in attendance at the meeting with ASECO. They include; the Board Chairman, Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha, his Vice Chairman, Prince Ozo Chukwura and Mr Eniola Igbaroola.
The board according to DAILY TREND findings, has directed the ASECO to commence verification of voters licenses in the Eastern and Northern Zone, even though some of the ASECO members have been alleged not to have practicing licenses.
Speaking with our correspondent, Leader of Western Zone of ANLCA, Chief John Oforbike noted that this move was against the general agreement reached at the peaceful resolution meeting held with the Customs Consultative Council (CCC) in Abuja last week.
According to him, one of the resolution of the meeting was that, the CCC would verify the licenses of the ASECO members and BOT members, against the backdrop of allegations that many of them don’t have licenses, hence do not qualify to screen voters.
“At the CCC meeting, it was agreed that ASECO members licenses and that’s of the BOT members would be verified, and that the board would take over the association after the NECOM vacate office after the two weeks deadline given to them which expires next week.
“It was agreed that any meeting being held by any other group of boards is clandestine and not Holden.
It was agreed that the Constitution of 2013 should be used for the election.
“Mustapha went to hold meeting with two members at the Secretariat yesterday, and he was saying that ASECO should go to the East and be verifying licenses, and that the mode of election is AGM.
“Meanwhile, the 2013 constitution says it’s through collegiate according to Section 22” he said
Meanwhile, the ASECO has issued time table for the upcoming elections into the National Executive Committee (NECOM) of ANLCA. The committee has set 15th of August as the date of the election.
Verification and screening of licenses of voters at Eastern and Northern Zone to commence on 1st to 3rd of August 2023. Deadline for submission of petition to ASECO is 5th August 2023.
