LASWA, French Development Agency Brainstorm on Developing Lagos Waterways

The French Development Agency (AFD) and the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has just concluded a three-day final workshop on the preparatory studies for the WIDE-LAG Project.

The workshop started on 19th of June 2023 and concluded on 21st of June in Lagos.

The interactive workshop brought together all the feasibility studies related to the Lagos Inland waterways development and aimed to assess the progress made and other challenges in order to find a way forward for each package consultant.

Representatives from the European Union, European Investment Bank, Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan African (COM SSA III), Federal Ministry of Finance, Lagos State Government Officials, the General Manager Mr. Damilola Emmanuel and Management Staff of LASWA were present at the workshop. The workshop held crossed-package discussions on detailed Passenger Demand Surveys, Draft Final Operation Plan, Vessel Specifications, Infrastructure Design, and Costing.

In addition, there was a presentation on the IWT system’s Brand, Logo, and Graphic Charter based on the selected Brand Name. LASWA’s New Organogram, Staffing, and Capacity-Building Plan were also presented. The workshop involved presentations by all the recruited consultants, who briefly summarized their Project’s.

The workshop’s objectives were to bring together all the feasibility studies related to the Inland Waterways’ development, assess the progress made and challenges, and find a way forward for each package consultant. The workshop’s outcomes will inform future plans related to the Lagos Inland Waterways development.
