NDLEA Prioritizes Original Clearance Certificate On Export Cargoes

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said that it is placing premium on submission of original export clearance certificates on all export cargoes leaving the Tin Can Island Port of Lagos.
Our correspondent learnt that this directive was issued by the agency to all shipping companies. Confirming this in aa memo to its customers, the customer Service department of Hapag-Lloyd Nigeria, a shipping line, signed by Abimbola Ojo, announced that from May 2nd 2023, photocopies of documents would no longer be acceptable.
The widely circulated memo is titled “EXPORT CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE ADVISORY FOR TIN CAN COMMAND and it reads in part:
“We have received advisory from NDLEA to demand the original copy of NDLEA Export Clearance Certificate for the processing of all Export Containers for TINCAN COMMAND.
“Hence, any photocopy of the Export Clearance Certificate should not be accepted; the photocopy is for Agents while the original copy is to be submitted to the shipping line. This will take effect Tuesday May 2nd, 2023”
