Nigerian Shipowners Elect Otunba Adewumi As President, Sets to Hold NIMAREX 2023

The Nigeria Shipowners Association (NISA) on Thursday elected Otunba Sola Adewumi as it’s National President during an election of new set of executives to pilot affairs of the association for two years.

This is even as the NISA President, Otunba Adewumi during his interaction with Journalists assured that the Nigerian Maritime Expo (NIMAREX) a brainchild of the association will hold before the end of year 2023.

NIMAREX first held in 2011 with the aim of showcasing the enormous potentials in the Nigerian maritime industry, and to woo foreign investors.

Apart from showcasing Nigeria’s maritime accomplishments, NIMAREX helped the federal government during this period by establishing appropriate Acts and laws to encourage the indigenous practitioners.

Otunba Adewumi at the elections, defeated the Chairman of Japaul Group, Mr Paul Jegede by 21 votes to 2 votes to clinch the NISA top position.

The election had observer from the maritime workers union, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) as well as Master Mariners.

The newly elected president, pledged to work closely with members of the association and other relevant stakeholders in the shipping Industry.

Otunba Adewumi further promised to revamp the moribund secretariat of the association.

He also promised to work closely with members of the association adding that all hands will be on deck to change the narratives of the shipping business in Nigeria.

According to him, plans are already afoot to reunite ship owners in Nigeria , stressing the need for practitioners in the sub sector of the maritime sector to speak with one voice .

Meanwhile, Otunba Olawale Jubril emerged unopposed for the post of General Secretary , NISA with 20 votes.

Gbolahan Adu emerged Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Malik as Financial Secretary and Wor-Degbetuwa Sammy emerged Treasurer.

Also speaking, Chief Isaac Jolapamo, founding father and former President of NISA called on the newly elected executives to work closer with members.

Jolapamo expressed satisfaction at the elections, even as he urged losers in the contest to support the new executives in order to help grow NISA.
