Merchant Sail Navy Flags-off Headquarters, Hosts 5-Days Leadership Training for Officers

Merchant Sail Navy officers between Monday 27th to Friday 31st of March 2022 gathered at the Sail Navy headquarters in Lagos State for a training on leadership skills and moral perfection.

This is to enable them meet up with modern activities to develop the Organization.

The Commander General of Sail Navy, Captain JohnLinus Okoronkwo, said at the opening of the training with the theme “Imperatives of Leadership in an ethically driven Nigerian Merchant Sail Navy’’ that skills were important to the Sail Navy leadership framework.

Represented by the Commanding Officer Oscar Marine (Sail Navy Commander Egwu Angel), CO Headquarters (Sail Navy Commander Chukwuedo Sylvester), CO Akwa Ibom State Command (Sail Navy Commander Godwin Samuel), CO Lima Marine (Sail Navy Cdr. Chima Chijioke) he said that the five-day training was in partnership with the JohnLinus Maritime Academy and Seafarers Academia.

Capt. JohnLinus Okoronkwo said a Sail Navy officer was one of the focal point of responsible leadership within any given community.

He added that “all too often than not, Sail Navy officers find themselves in very challenging and multi-tasking situations that require flexible adaptation to rapidly fluid and changing scenarios.

“The Sail Navy officer is called upon to take a decision which has impact on the lives of people and the safety of the community itself.

“This is what is commonly called the use of Sail Navy discretionary authority and how officers decide to do this has serious implications on the Organization and the larger community.’’

The Sail Navy boss said Nigeria was moving toward consolidating its democracy and the Sail Navy institution will help to be the vanguard of positive change.

“This can only be attained by creating a standard pool of leadership and managerial talent cutting across all strata of the Nigerian Merchant Sail Navy,’’ he noted.

He then urged Sail Navy officers undergoing the training to develop the skills and talent of their subordinates in order to leave lasting legacies behind.

The Commander General Sail Navy Captain JohnLinus Okoronkwo said the training was meant to impart great leadership qualities in men and officers of the formation.

He said “we have always been in partnership with the sister organizations, we trained the whole.

He said the organization had also trained the Officers on intelligence, Regimentation, Swimming and crime prevention.

The training was aimed at building the capacity of 100 senior Sail Navy officers of the Nigerian Merchant Sail Navy and to equip them to meet the accepted global norms in modern day operation.
