The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has warned members of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) that only members who are registered up to date with the CRFFN will be allowed to vote and be voted for in the coming elections.

Chairman of CRFFN Governing Board, Alhaji Tsanni Abubakar stated this on Thursday when he midwifed the inauguration of the ANLCA’s Association Electoral Committee (ASECO) at the association Secretariat, Amuwo Odofin Lagos.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha has emerged as Chairman of the unified Board of Trustees (BOT) of ANLCA, while Prince Ozo Chukwurah emerged as the Vice Chairman.

Speaking on the coming ANLCA elections, Alhaji Tsanni Abubakar warned members of ANLCA to closely guard and monitor the newfound peace in the association in order to avoid its sabotage by those whom he described as profiteers in the unrest.

“If care is not taken, another round of crisis may be stirred up by the beneficiaries of the five – year old crisis” he warned.

He however appealed that all court cases should be withdrawn in the interest of peace in the association.

While commenting on the coming NECOM elections, the CRFFN chairman disclosed that the council will be an observer at the election.
He also said that only members who are registered with the CRFFN will be allowed to vote and be voted for.

Kayode Farinto, the Acting National President of ANLCA, while administering the oath of office on the six-member ASECO declared that the inauguration of the committee was a great milestone in the healing process in ANLCA.

Farinto, who revealed the appointment of Mustapha as the unified BOT at a meeting held Wednesday, March 29th, 2023, described the five- year old ANLCA crisis as an ill wind that blew no one any good.

He traced the intractable crisis in ANLCA to ego and self-interest.
“We have been fighting ourselves due to ego and self-interest. The war has not helped anybody.”
” During the war, we forgot how we started,” he said.

He however expressed gratitude for the commitment and doggedness of the CRFFN chairman towards the restoration of peace in the association.
Farinto enjoined all members to forget the five year -old war and forge a common front to reposition ANLCA.

“This is a healing process during which we shall all work together in unity for the progress of ANLCA”

The chairman of the unified BOT of ANLCA, Alhaji Mustapha said that now that the crisis is over, the association will be greater again.
“It is high time we saw ourselves as one”, he pleaded.

Alhaji Mustapha, however, vowed that the new BOT, which he chairs, would put an end to monetized elections in ANLCA.

“I promise you that as the chairman of the BOT, no money will exchange hands in the coming NECOM election”
“The elections will be strictly based on merit and competence but if there is any need to make an exception, it will be to strengthen the unity of the association.”

Alhaji Mustapha said that with the return of peace to the association, all camps and factions hitherto exciting in ANLCA had collapsed.

The six-member ASECO which was inaugurated Thursday has Mr. Alloy Anukwuru as the chairman and Mustapha Yakubu as the Secretary.
The committee has the sacred mandate to conduct free and fair elections that will usher in a new ANLCA NECOM.
