Fear Grips Terminal Operator, As Hoodlums Attempt to Steal Imported Vehicles At Tin Can Port

Apparently due to alleged security lapses, there are indications that some hoodlums reportedly gained access into a Roll-on Roll-off terminal; Five Star Logistics Terminal at Tin Can Island Port and attempted to steal an imported vehicle from the port.

This is also as the terminal has expressed concerns on the prevalence of fake clearing documents being paraded by some notorious clearing agents and freight forwarders at the port.

To this end, our correspondent learnt the terminal operator on Wednesday held an emergency stakeholders meeting with clearing agents and freight forwarders where it subsequently warned that, henceforth, anyone without an official tag would not be allowed access into the terminal.

Association sources who attended the meeting spoke with DAILY TREND and said “The meeting borders on security arrangement inside the terminal, they told us that some of our people were engaging in document forgery in order to move vehicles out of the port.
The terminal were telling us to advise our members not to be part of such act.

“They brought a document showing an attempt to steal a vehicle inside the terminal by duplicating the chasis number inside the terminal there, but unfortunately, the thieves were not successful, on discovering them, they ran away” the source said

According to sources, part of the resolutions reached was that, as from Monday 20th March, 2023 with the help of Security Agents anybody coming to do business inside the terminal must hang their Tags or show it to the Security Agents at the gate before entrance.

The terminal operator also warned that their would be no loitering around the Terminals, and that a waiting area has been created for agents who wants receive or for signing of their documents.

When contacted, a top management staff of the terminal, Mr Chuks Okereafor, as well as the Chairman of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents ANLCA at Tin Can Island Port, Alhaji Mohammed Mojeed confirmed that the meeting held on Wednesday.

According to Mr Okereafor “It is a routine meeting, from time to time, we normally engage the agents in oder to see areas we are not doing well and areas we can corporate together”
