‘Without Comrade Adeyanju, I wouldn’t Have Become NLC President’—-Com Joe Ajaero

…Lauds MWUN On Investments, Transformation

President of Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) Comrade Joe Ajaero has commended the President General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) Comrade Adewale Adeyanju for the role plaid during the immediate past National Delegate Conference of the union, saying that with Comrade Adeyanju, he wouldn’t have emerged as President of NLC.

Comrade Ajaero stated this last Friday when he visited the MWUN Secretariat in Apapa Lagos as part of his working visit to all affiliate union’s under the NLC.

Inside sources had confirmed exclusively to DAILY TREND that Comrade Adeyanju was the preferred candidate for the NLC job, and that he was favoured by the NLC hierarchy to succeed it’s immediate past President, Comrade Ayuba Waba.

However, the MWUN PG sacrificed the position and rather settled to become 1st Deputy President in order to solidify the newly restored peace and harmony in the NLC union.

The reliable sources told our correspondent that Comrade Adeyanju, often regarded as a man of peace, did this, in order to ensure peace in the NLC, and to fully integrate a faction of the union who had broken away during the 10th National Delegates Conference in 2015 following disagreements during the election.

Recall that some of the members joined Comrade Joe Ajaero to form a parallel union; United Labour Congress (ULC) due to fallout of the election that brought-in Comrade Ayuba Waba.

However in year 2020,the NLC reconciled with the factional United Labour Congress (ULC) to form a united labour movement, even as Comrade Joe Ajaero was made a Deputy President.

Speaking on Friday, Comrade Ajaero, even though he didn’t go into details, said he would be unfair to himself if he fails to publicly acknowledge the role Comrade Adeyanju played in his emergence

Speaking he said “This is how you know a proactive leader, let me first of all use this opportunity to thank Comrade Adeyanju, it is important I say this, my emergence as the NLC President today wouldn’t have been possible without Adeyanju, please help me to salute him.

“If I don’t say this, I am not being fair to myself, and what he did, he did it between himself and God, based on his conviction.
You did not see me here to lobby him, I have not been here since he became the PG, I want to thank him once again”

Comrade Ajaero also stated that the transformation of the MWUN union under Comrade Adeyanju has been so marvelous.
He commended the union for building of a guest house beside the headquarters which would soon be commissioned.

He also commended Comrade Adeyanju’s administration and executives for their foresight and business acumen in converting the long abandoned Okokomaiko property of the union into a real estate.

After observing the structure of the union’s headquarters, he said “The union Secretariat is a corporate office like that of any bank you can ever think of, I have visited various union’s including my own, and I know how we are struggling, but when I came to MWUN Secretariat, I say, to God be the glory and we commend Adeyanju for that.
Thank you very much for transforming this place.

“The union has waged a lot of struggles to be where you are today.
The PG was talking about commissioning a guest house and I am happy for that, there is one other property you have at Okokomaiko for a very long time, if the property has now been converted into an estate like the PG told me, it is a very big transformation, before now, the property was lying fallow, but now that it has been converted, it shows visionary leadership.

“There was a time that Dockers welfare was a big issue in this union, there was protest upon protests, but today, the union has brought sanity to these challenges.

“I never knew anybody can solve the problem of dockworkers the way it was. They were previously see as never-do-wells in the sector, but today, the story has changed and everywhere is calm, and I must commend it” Comrade Ajaero stated
