2023 Elections: CILT Lagos Sensitize Members On Effective Distribution of Electoral Materials

Ahead of the up coming 2023 general elections in Nigeria, the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT) Lagos State Branch has organized a sensitization seminar for members on the importance of effective logistics during the elections.

The seminar which held on Wednesday via zoom was titled “Logistics & Electoral Process”

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the CILT Lagos Branch Mr Bashir Ambi Mohammed, FCILT welcomed members and tasked them to embraced the knowledge sharing that will be acquired after the seminar, reminding them of the critical roles Logistics play not only during elections periods but to the National Development.

Delivering her key note address, the Special Guest at the seminar, Barr(Mrs)Mfon Usoro, FCILT, the President and Chairperson of the Council of CILT-NG commended the branch and stated that the topic is appropriated on the issue at hand, not only in Nigeria but across the globe.

Usoro, further stated that the essence of the topic is to achieve credible elections in Nigeria and maximum participation of the electorates.

She however called on the branch to captured the salient points after the seminar so that it will be forwarded to the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) as contributions of Logistics Experts in Nigeria.

Delivering the paper, the guest lecturer at the seminar, Dr. Benedict Ayantoyinbo, CMILT, an associate Professor from the Department of Transport Management, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomosho, Oyo State, stated that credible elections can not be possible without effective and efficient logistics.

Ayantoyinbo delivered a paper on logistics, electoral process, inbound and outbound logistics. The University Don also discussed on the manufacturing of BVAS, Pre-election logistics, post election process, Logistics systems of INEC, INEC & the CBN, transporting the INEC materials, why increase in INEC budget when compared with the previous elections held?, challenges of the electoral process, ad-hoc staff, problems of rural areas voting and the need to reduce the concentration of security agencies and other facilities to the rural areas as well.

He proffered as one of the future consideration in addition to an effective and efficient logistics, the need to adopt an electronic voting system in the Country.

The moderator of the seminar, Mrs Margret Ogbonna, FCILT ensured that the questions and answers session was properly managed. The seminar had recorded an impressive attendants of its members across all the modes of Logistics & Transport in the Country.
