Lekki Port Completion: China Has Built 100 Ports in Africa in 20-Years—Ambassador

The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Cui Juan Chun has said that Lekki Deep Seaport was among the 100 seaports built by China in the African continent in the past 20-years through the popular construction giant; China Habour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC).

Ambassador Chun stated this last week at the completion ceremony of the Lekki Deep Seaport in Lagos

Speaking, he said “China has built 100 deep seaports in the whole of African continent since the year 2000, this means means that in twenty years, China has built 100 deep seaports.
“I also want to let you know that Chinese companies working in Africa, we have built 100,000 highways and 10,000 railways.
The building of road facility is an initiative to connect every nation.

“I want to let you know that China Harbour Construction Company are doing a very good job, 70% of seaports in African continent is done by China Harbour.

“Also in China, 90% of the Seaport is done by China Harbour, so, Nigeria has chosen the right partner to work with” he said

Ambassador Chun noted that the Lekki Deep Seaport has capacity to receive 1.2 million containers per year, “meaning we can accommodate the biggest ships with 180,000 containers. It has capacity to create 170,000 jobs, and generate $300billion in operation period” he said
Ambassador Cui Juan Chun commended CHEC for displaying excellence in their project skills and promoting China’s commitment to Africa’s infrastructure development drive.

He noted that this project, Lekki Deep Seaport was a good example of what can be achieved when Nigeria and China cooperate, saying that he looked forward to more of such projects.
