HAPPENING NOW: Pandemonium As Hoodlums Attack ANLCA Tin Can Port Secretariat, Terrorize Port Users
By DAPO OLAWUNI
Daredevil hoodlums have stormed the NPA Complex where the Tin Can Island Port Chapter Secretariat of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) is located.
The hoodlums numbering about 15, wielding dangerous weapons, stormed the venue of an ongoing maiden General meeting of the Western Zone and destroyed vehicles, canopies and other valuable properties of the association.
The attack was going on right in the presence of police officers deployed to the venue.
Our correspondent who was on ground reported that top members of the Board of Trustees (BOT) members of ANLCA and scores of port users were chased with weapons.
Recall that the ANLCA has been in leadership crisis for the past four years, and recently leading to the appointment of a caretaker committee by the Taiwo Mustapha led BOT. Mr Pius Ujubonu was installed as Acting President alongside others.
Today’s meeting was the first general meeting scheduled by the Interim National Executive Committee (NECOM) and it was fixed at Tin Can Island Port because the National Secretariat of ANLCA was under lock by the Nigerian Police.
Some of the press men in attendance also sustained minor injuries in the course of the pandemonium.
Meanwhile, members of the association who spoke with DAILY TREND in course of the chaos, lamented poor security provisions by the Acting NECOM and the Tin Can chapter executives.
One of them also queried why the general meeting was not fixed at a reputable hotel, instead of a volatile Tin Can Port.
