The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested the factional chairman of the PTML Chapter of Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) Otunba Sunday Oyebola for alleged involvement in Colorado Drugs import from Canada.

Tin Can Island Port Commander of the NDLEA, Mr Mohammed Abubakar confirmed the arrest to DAILY TREND on Saturday.
Oyebola is currently being held at Apapa Command of the NDLEA.

Abubakar stated that investigation is still ongoing on the case of drug importation and that more information would be made available soon.

The Apapa Commander of NDLEA, Ameh Inalogwu also confirmed to our correspondent that he has a suspect in custody from Tin Can Port over alleged importation of Colorado drugs.

According to reports gathered by our correspondent, Oyebola was alleged to have been avoiding the NDLEA arrest until Thursday when he was trailed and nabbed at Kam Salem House of the Nigerian Police Force, in Lagos while attending a peace meeting of ANLCA.

Recall that in April 2022, the Customs Area Controller of Tin Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Compt Kunle Oloyede had announced seizure of the 145kg of Colorado (Indian hemp) concealed in 2 units of Ridgeline trucks and 2 units of Toyota corolla vehicles.

The drug importation was discovered at Classic Bonded Terminal under the Tin Can Island Port.

Investigations by our correspondent revealed that a high profile socialite, a woman (names withheld) was the importer of the drugs. According to sources, she ran a topnotch syndicate that has been importing drugs through the port under different guises.

“The drugs were packed inside a drum and concealed inside the vehicles.
The customs at Tin Can Port arrested Oyebola’s assistant, a lady during cargo examination, but she was granted bail subsequently.
But the NDLEA man at Tin Can called their boss Buba Marwa who called the CG of customs that they must produce the suspect.

“The DC in charge of the case, Dan Bauchi almost lost his job because the he was asked to step aside, the two sureties that bailed the agent had ran away, but eventually, they caught one of them” a source told our correspondent.

When contacted, National Secretary of ANLCA, Alhaji Babatunde Mukaila said the association is not aware of the arrest of it’s Chairman by NDLEA.

“We do know that sometimes ago that one of the consignment he (Oyebola) was inspecting, a small quantity of hemp was discovered, the product was from Canada or thereabouts.

“As we all know that, as much as we are fighting drugs in Nigeria, Canada has legalized hemp, probably somebody kept some carelessly in the car that was imported.

“But for the issue of arrest, I am not aware, I do know that he has been cooperating with the NDLEA to resolve the issue.
We are agents, we are not importers, all he has to do is mention the consignee and let them sort their issues” he stated

Alhaji Mukaila also said he was not aware that Oyebola appended his name on the Bill of Laden as importer of the cargo and the clearing agent, adding that this would be foolhardy.

“This is not possible, with all the education we have been giving to clearing agents. We have told them to get indemnity forms that ANLCA has designed for everybody in order to forestall these kinds of situation” he stated
