OKADA BAN: NPCC Tackles HITECH, As Clearing Agents Experience Hardship on Tin Can Port Roads

The Nigerian Ports Consultative Council (NPCC) has decried the suffering of port users and clearing agents since motorcycle riders, known as OKADA has been banned in Apapa and other parts of the state by the Lagos State Government.
National Coordinator, Policy and Practice Committee of the NPCC, Mr Okechukwu Vincent told DAILY TREND exclusively that the body is tackling the construction company in charge of the Tin Can-Oshodi expressway, Messer HITECH Construction company for perpetually blocking segments of the road which has been completed.
According to him, after the ban on motorcycle operations, the road should be opened up for vehicles to get to the Tin Can Island Port.
“It has become necessary to draw your attention to the hardship experienced by agents who trek from Mile Two to Tin Can due to deliberate blockage of the Highways by HITECH Construction Co. Ltd, using Kel Stones at various points along the road.
“I implore all Association leaderships to mount pressure on the Managing Director of HITECH, Mr. Rob to remove all the barricades within one week; with a serious warning that where he fails to do that the whole agents would embark on indefinite strike while he gives account to the Federal Government on the revenue that Nigeria earns from these Ports” he said
The NPCC topnotch also revealed that his Committee has booked an appointment with the Managing Director, Hitech Construction Company, Mr. Rob against Wednesday 29th June 2020, to look into the plight of road users, especially agents plying Apapa Oshodi Expressway.
“Our demand is to ask the company to remove the kelvstones they used to block the Expressway so that commuters can have relative ease accessing the ports and Terminals along that axis.
“The meeting is for 11 am at the company’s head office by 2nd Rainbow, immediately after the construction site of the new bridge linking Orile and 2nd Rainbow.
“Each Association is required to send top two representatives to the meeting” he said
