AGGE PORT CITY: Bayelsa Governor, Douye Diri Solicits For Investors

As Bayelsa State Unveils plans for one of the World’s most ambitious Port City Development Models, the State’s helmsman, Sen Douye Diri, has thrown it’s doors open for investors to take advantage of the unlimited opportunities open to prospect investors.

Governor Douye Diri who was speaking in Yenagoa when he received in audience the Agge Port City Committee said the magnitude of the project was such that could not be handled single handed by the Bayelsa State Government.

” I must acknowledge the reality that this project is beyond what we can handle alone as a state government, considering the huge budgetary implication. I therefore call on investors to take advantage of the huge benefits the project offers’, he said.

Gov Diri who was responding to a call by the Coordinator of Agge Port City Committee, Elder ASU Beks , to immediately inaugurate a Technical Committee to activate the project, allayed fears in certain quarters that the project was moribund.

Said Gov. Diri: ‘ This project is the catalyst for the industrial revolution of Bayelsa State, it is very dear to us. We will do everything within our powers to get it off the starting block . We will ensure that prospect investors are provided with the necessary legislation , enabling environment and will seek the support of all collaborative agencies needed for it’s smooth take off ,’ he pled .

Elder ASU Beks made a passionate appeal to Gov Douye Diri to ensure the full realization of Project Agge Port City.

Said he : ‘ As we gather here today, let us remember that whatever we do and agree on here today will either serve as a legacy and a monumental leap or immortalize us in history as those who failed to perform when our services were needed most’, he argued.

A member of the Committee and the immediate past Chairman of the Agge Deep Seaport Implementation Committee, Capt Warredi Enisuoh , explained that the Agge Port City would be a marked difference from other models in the Africa.

‘ The Agge Port City would be a business hub and would be five times the size of Jabel Ali, in the middle East, and one of the largest Port Cities in the world. It would be a world class port City with a shipyard, Container Terminal, airstrips, with links by road and rail. It is also going to be a tourist destination and would create no fewer than 200,000 jobs’, he said.
